About Toms River/Berkeley

Toms River has ocean beaches and marinas on Barnegat Bay and much more to offer. Toms River has been rated as high as the 15th safest city in the country. The movie ‘Amityville Horror’ was filmed in Toms River, along with HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ and various MTV shows. The population is in excess of 91,000. In addition, Berkeley is an adjacent town, which people often think is part of Toms River.

There are 5 active adult communities in Toms River. Four communities have single family, detached home. The other has attached homes.

A common misconception is that the town of Berkeley is in Toms River. However, Berkeley is a separate town next to Toms River. In fact,10 communities are in Berkeley Township which is south of Toms River. Additionally, nine of the communities in Berkeley are commonly called Holiday City. Furthermore, there’s a Holiday City in Toms River, Holiday City at Silverton. In fact, it’s miles away.

And indeed, this is where the confusion is. Because Holiday City is right on the border of Toms River.  In fact, each has it’s own association and clubhouse. Sixteen thousand adult community homes are in in Holiday City. Almost all of the homes are single family detached homes.

Dining and Shopping

There is a thriving downtown Toms River with entertainment, dining and shopping. Additional shopping and dining is throughout the town, with a major mall, Ocean County Mall, in town as well.

Recreation & Entertainment

A short ride across the bridge over Barnegat Bay gets you to the exciting boardwalk in Seaside. One community, Greenbriar Woodlands has a golf course. In addition, there are many courses available in Ocean County. Enjoy local activities such as fishing, boating, golf, shopping, dining and more

Commute and Transportation

Numerous east/west roads go through Toms River, the Garden State Parkway has 3 exits in Toms River.

Ocean Ride provides bus transportation within Ocean County. 12 bus routes connect key residential areas with popular destinations. Additionally, NJ Transit has a Park and Ride facility in Toms River, offering bus service to North Jersey and NYC.

Medical Care

Medical care is available at Community Hospital. Furthermore, there are numerous other medical facilities. Ocean Ride provides non-emergency medical transportation service to seniors. A small fee is charged, however you’ll need reservations.
